A sharing of experience and vision of performance art, exploring the intersections of the body, technology, time and space. Fundamental concepts of performance art will be addressed, from its historical origins to contemporary languages. The masterclass proposes a reflection on the body as an expressive and political means, through performative creation strategies based on action, improvisation and the relationship with the audience and space, in a sharing environment, aimed at artists, students and curious minds who want to deepen their understanding of performance as an interdisciplinary practice.

Alexandre Lyra Leite was born in Lisbon in 1971. His long career in the performing arts has seen him work as an author, director and producer. His work is characterised by an experimental and multidisciplinary approach, in which poetry and visual elements play a key role.

In Lisbon, he studied Cinema at ESTC – Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (Higher School of Theatre and Cinema) and Theatre Production and Management at IFICT – Instituto de Formação, Investigação e Criação Teatral (Institute for Training, Research and Theatre Creation). Founder and Artistic Director of Inestética, he has produced and directed over 60 shows in the areas of performance, opera and theatre. Teacher on the Higher Course in Interactive Multimedia Production at IPA – Instituto Superior Autónomo de Estudos Politécnicos, and trainer at ETIC in Lisbon on courses in Film-making, Video and 2D/3D Animation. He has made several experimental videos for shows, advertising spots and video clips.

Winner of three editions of the O Teatro na Década competition, organised by the CPAI – Clube Português de Artes e Ideias, and recipient of a grant in the field of Performing Arts/Theatre from the National Culture Centre and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in the New Directors Programme. In 1996, he was awarded the Cultural Merit Plaque of the City of Vila Franca de Xira.
