Capturing a fluid dance of dissolving and becoming
& celebration of lightness and grace.
As part of her exhibition for InShadow, Andrea Hackl presents a new video work and a selection of photographs from three series that have a dialogue with each other – shadow and light, water and air – forming their own dance. The GRACE, BLACK & MOON LIGHT series were born from encounters with photographers Maike Helbig (Grace, Black) and
Duarte Amaral Netto (Moon Light).

Andrea Hackl is an Amsterdam-based independent filmmaker, multidisciplinary artist, and choreographer and works across the medium of film, expanded cinema, and performance. The body has an important presence in her work and her background in dance and a movement based practice has definitely formed how she perceives and works with the world around her - and has given a special sensitivity and quality to her cinematic work - but she cherishes the alchemy of different disciplines, and her practice merges cinema with performance, aiming to create poetic, visually compelling projects that explore themes of freedom, empowerment, human connection, and the interplay between inner and outer landscapes.

The artists behind the lens:
Duarte Amaral Netto is a Portuguese & Lisbon based photographer, with international recognition. His first solo show at Modulo (2002) toured the Netherlands, earning the Grand Prix du 48e Salon de Montrouge. He represented Portugal in 100 Photos pour l’Europe and exhibited at major festivals including Arles and Winterthur. Co-founder of Hélice and Propeller, he teaches at Instituto Politécnico de Tomar.

Maike Katharina Helbig based in Hanover, works as a freelance photographer and make-up artist, drawing on her own experience in front of the camera as a model and performer in commercials, music videos, and television. This versatile background shapes her sensitive, intuitive approach. Her ongoing collaboration with Klang und Leben, bringing music to nursing homes, is the one closest to her heart.
