Over the course of two weeks, InShadow hosted the International Videodance and Documentary Competitions.

From the 19th to the 22nd of November, we were at Casa do Comum for the International Documentary Competition, where we presented 20 films from several countries. In the final session held in that venue, we also showcased a Special Session of three videodance works – Until the moon is born in the west, by Lea Bethke; Nothing Between Body and Earth, by Cheng Tsung-Lung and Chuan Ming-Yuan; and Seasons of Dance, by Tommy Pascal.

In the following week, from the 25th to the 28th of November, InShadow took place, as usual, at Teatro do Bairro. Across 7 sessions, we screened 72 videodance films from more than 25 countries. These were intense days, filled with creativity, innovation and, above all, a celebration of the relationship between dance and screen.

The programme culminated on the night of the 29th of November with the Awards Ceremony, during which 10 awards and 2 honorable mentions were announced, corresponding to the three International Competitions: Videodance, Documentary and Animation.

It was a moment of encounters and recognition, where we celebrated works that expand the dialogue between body, image and technology.

You can see the full list of awardees here. We highlight the Jorge Salavisa Award – IMZ for Best Videodance, granted to HAMMER, by Zacharie Ellia (FR), and the Luna Andermatt Award – IMZ for Best Documentary, awarded to Bull's Heart, by Eva Stefani (GR). We also underline the valuable collaboration with the IMZ International Music + Media Centre, which made it possible to introduce new distinctions with renewed support. It was a pleasure to count on this partnership with IMZ, specifically with dancescreen2025.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants and jury members of this 17th edition, and we look forward to seeing you again in the coming years! Congratulations to the award winners and to everyone who continues to propel InShadow into new territories.

InShadow – body imagined in the shadow.
