Who is a woman when no one is watching? Who is the one the light brings into view?
Skiagrafia: uma fantasmática do corpo is a performative installation that evokes the phantasmatic bodies photographed, drawn and projected by three portuguese artists: Lourdes Castro, Ana Vieira and Helena Almeida. Drawing on Lourdes Castro's Teatro de Sombras (Shadow Theatre), the work explores shadow, the presence of absence and female invisibility, in a poetic territory between the intimate and the universal.
The title comes from the Greek skia (shadow) and graphia (writing, drawing): a writing of shadows, in which the body becomes a surface of inscription for what remains unseen.
Between intimate gestures and phantasmatic bodies, private life becomes a place of apparitions. In the small gestures of an existence, something is revealed. Or perhaps reinvented.
