Shadow in Motion: São João da Madeira

As part of the A Cidade Dança festival, InShadow is bringing videodance to São João da Madeira for the first time. On the 2nd of May at 5PM, in a screening followed by a discussion with the audience, we will present four short films that won awards at the latest edition of InShadow.
The A Cidade Dança festival, organized by Casa da Criatividade, is a space for meeting and sharing, where dance extends beyond the stage and becomes part of city life, promoting new ways of seeing, feeling and inhabiting the body and the territory.

Spoken Movement Family Honour, de Daniel Gurton (UK) 10'
In a British-Ghanaian household bound by tradition and religion, a young girl lives under the oppressive control of her abusive father. At the family dinner table, heated arguments reveal the deep rift between them as they confront the scars of their shared history.
Ode to Age, Kati Kallio (FI) 8’
The film portrays how wild, free and beautiful the aging body is, how pointless the fear of wrinkles and skin folds is. A dance film about elderly women who have had enough of the colorlessness of life. Together, they take off their everyday clothes and by joyful and undisciplined throw themselves into the Finnish summer.
Going on Strike, Chélanie Beaudin-Quintin (CA) 14’
A dancefilm celebrating solidarity in protest and the strength of a group in revolt.
