Yesterday we inaugurated another programming space - Espaço Cultural Mercês, where, until the 11th of December, you can visit two photographic exhibitions and a videodance collection shown on a loop.

At InShadow, photography and other artistic proposals are as important as cinema and dance, and also explore the relationship between body and technology. Thus, we seek to occupy spaces that are aligned with this desire to promote established and emerging artists, making their projects known to our audience. Espaço Cultural Mercês is a clear example of this effort.

The opening of Espaço Cultural Mercês was marked by a conversation between Pedro Sena Nunes, Artistic Co-Director, with Inês Chaubert, one of the artists with a photographic exhibition, and with one of the artists whose video dance is part of the looped collection, Runa-Marie Dubrow.

Discover the two exhibitions on display in this space:

Three bodies trace the invisible line between light and shadow, body and movement, dance and image.

Through long exposure and colour, the dancers become traces of light, revealing both the calm and the movement that defines the essence of dance and image. Their gestures reveal a third space that emerges when two forces converge: a shared movement.

This movement is the result of the encounter between these entities, united by light and body, in the collaboration between InShadow and dancescreen2025.

μεταξύ in ancient Greek means "between." In Plato's Symposium, Eros is described as neither mortal nor immortal, but something in between, an intermediary between the human and the divine, the visible and the invisible, reason and madness. This out-of-placeness is precisely a figure of metaxù, a body "displaced" by its own imagination. "No one can ask God to enter, no one can ask God to leave."

In addition to the exhibitions, we also have a collection of videodance films available in this space, shown on a loop, which includes the following films:
