Piece 1: Giróscopio
The piece Giróscopio provides an unstable and simultaneous projection of various projection glasses, designed by an unknown author. These glasses, in the context of the installation, can be viewed randomly and superimposed by moving the light of the articulated focus, and by exploring the area and angle of projection, we are always recreating a visual discourse and narrative that is reconfigured as we select and project the drawings.
Developed by the astronomer Christiaan Huygens (1629-1695), and publicised by the Jesuit mathematician Athanasius Kircher (1602-1680), Lanternas Mágicas, after the emergence of photography, were called projection lanterns and took on a playful and didactic context, in that they were an integral part of scientific dissemination tools from 1850 onwards.
The projection glasses were created for recreational sessions in a domestic context; until 1920, sets could still be purchased for handmade and personal production, to be used as a teaching resource in classrooms.
Piece 2: Myriorama
This is a panoramic image created from projection glasses that derive from a children's landscape-building game, which had trees as a way of joining picturesque landscapes, and represented scenographies from different countries.
The idea is to articulate this disposition, altering geographies and recreating landscapes.
Here the proposal is to deny the possibility of projecting the images in sequence. We are proposing a journey. The glass on display plays with the idea of landscape, its permanence and its erasure. The wear and tear of the images (lithographic printing) by time and heat refers to the alteration of the architectures of picturesque places exposed to the elements.
This glass for Lanterna Mágica comes from a children's landscape-building game, which used trees as a way of joining together picturesque landscapes. These invented landscapes represented scenery from different countries. The idea was to articulate this arrangement, changing geographies and always recreating new sequences of landscapes.
This is a hybrid object, glass panes for projecting images in sequence, possibly associating the projection with a travel story. These glasses play with a continuous landscape, of endless travelling, it would be a game with the idea of the Tour du Monde
Piece 3: A espera
Installation of Projection Lantern and drawn image of varying dimensions.
The slide on the table is a digitalisation of a reproduction of a drawing by William Blake, and here we work on the idea of uncertainty and represent a character who loses his way or hesitates to enter the scene.
