"640/20" is an intimate and painful reflection of my life. Since I was little, I always had a harsh and conflicted relationship with my mother, marked by contempt, aggression, lack of affection, and empathy. It was only as I grew older and observed the relationships of others that I realized what happened in my house was not normal.

The turning point came when a specific incident led me to call the police — something I never imagined doing. When the police arrived at my house, I was quickly confronted with the term "domestic violence." Until that moment, I would never have associated my reality with that term. That was when I realized that what I had lived through, what I had always considered part of my routine, was actually a form of abuse.

This project is the result of that process of self-understanding and facing the truth. In it, I recount the emotions and marks left by a childhood filled with pain and silence. More than a personal testimony, it is a reflection on the invisible forms of violence and the importance of breaking the cycle of pain and silence, recognizing what I lived through for so long without knowing any different.

Eliana Costa grew up on the south bank of Portugal, surrounded by music and photography, influences that moulded her passions.

At the age of 14 she started modelling, developing a fascination for being on both sides of the camera, but it was behind the lens that she found her greatest expression.

In 2021 she completed a photography course at EPI, standing out with ‘640/20’, a documentary project that tackles domestic violence in childhood. She is currently exploring photography and video in the world of music.
