InShadow - Lisbon Screendance Festival celebrated its 15th edition in 2023. From November 9 to December 15, it presented examples of international artistic production in the field of film and dance in the city of Lisbon, with international video-dance, documentary and animation competitions, performances, special sessions, LittleShadow, installations, exhibitions, workshops and masterclasses.
A commemorative edition that took place in 14 venues in Lisbon with 39 events, 5 performances, 79 films in competition, 5 performances, 5 installations with 53 video-dances, 11 photography exhibitions, 4 interactive installations, 4 workshops, 2 masterclasses, 4 special sessions with historical films, 32 countries represented, the participation of more than 200 artists and more than 4500 people visiting InShadow. It has screened 18 world premieres, 22 European premieres and 59 national premieres. For the first time in InShadow's history, Portugal was the second country with the most submissions for the 2023 edition, with a total of 28 films, proving the growing investment and interest in the field of video dance and a legacy that we want to maintain.
At FNAC Chiado, the presentation of the program and inauguration of the group exhibition A Dança da Sombra (The Dance of the Shadow) took a look at the Festival's 15 years of existence, production and emancipation over the years. On December 2, the awards ceremony for the 15th edition gave out 11 awards in 10 categories, with the highlight being the Jorge Salavisa Best Dance Video Award, given by the Official Jury, which this year went to You Are Enough, by French director Lisa Magnan.
InShadow was attended by the choreographer Iwona Pasińska as a guest artist, presenting the world premiere of her film Historiae Vivae and a retrospective of her work, with the support of the Polish Embassy. This edition also included projects by: Rita Vilhena, Ghost Dance, Inestética, Renata Espinheira Gomes, CiM - Companhia de Dança, Joaquim Leal, Alex Pachón, Maddalena Ugolini, among others.
With the festival's partner venues - the Alcântara Library, FNAC Chiado, Espaço Cultural das Mercês, Espaço Santa Catarina, Cinemateca Portuguesa, Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, NOTE - Galeria de Arquitectura, Museu da Marioneta, SAFRA, Instituto Cervantes, Caixa Económica Operária, Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, ETIC and Teatro do Bairro - InShadow once again presented a diverse and plural program in Lisbon.
This year, InShadow was part of MOV'IN Cannes, a new festival that invited an exclusive number of festivals from all over the world and was attended by the Artistic Directors. InShadow is a co-founder of REDIV - Rede Iberoamericana de Video-Dança and Studiotrade, and maintains its international framework by once again receiving the distinguished European certification from EFFE - Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe, 2022-2023.
The OPEN CALL for the 16th edition of InShadow - Lisbon Screendance Festival, for the areas of video-dance, documentary, animation and photography, is now open via the FilmFreeway platform.
